Public Service Announcement

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with this country? Do what you can.

The Senate is scheduled to vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment the week
of June 5th.

The text of the proposed amendment to the
Constitution is as follows:

"Marriage in the United States shall
consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution or the
constitution of any State, nor state or federal law, shall be construed to
require that marital status or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon
unmarried couples or groups."

The HRC is delivering postcards
to congressional offices stating opposition to this amendment. Let
your elected representatives know that a vote for the FMA is a vote
against your friends and family by sending one: http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/campaign/fma_postcards.

Thankfully there isn't much likelihood this will pass either in congress or in 35 states (there is still hope for this country).
But the GOP has obviously timed this action to coincide with the Who Will Re-capture the Legislature in November Media Circus. So while they look tough on sodomy and "liberals" and "conservatives" spit on each other at Starbucks, Congress can softpeddle more fascist corporate welfare and midwestern soybean farmer subsidies over to the White House. So I for one plan on sending three postcards today: one to Congress supporting equal rights for all people in the Constitution, one to myself with a photo of Anna Nicole Smith stroking the Military-Industrial Complex, and a third to Chappaquidick Island, c/o Ted Kennedy. Kyrie eleison! Good luck with your move, JM.
